A close-knit team, here for you
Nothing matters more to you than your children, and you're considering trusting us to support them. The least we can do is introduce ourselves.
Laure Talavet-Omont
Laure Talavet-Omont founded Nyki in 2018, aged 23, after a double master's degree from a business school and with one conviction: social entrepreneurship can correct what the market leaves behind.
The trigger was an independent report to the European Commission, published in 2011, identifying private tutoring as one of the main factors sustaining and widening social inequality. Private tutoring is governed solely by supply and demand: the better-off families buy lessons from the best-regarded tutors, and therefore the most expensive ones, while the families in greatest difficulty have no access to those services at all. Tutoring, meant to close the gap, widens it.
Since 2018 Laure has run and grown Nyki, but she also teaches students herself every afternoon: drawing on her experience with more than 140 students, she wrote Learn'Box, to help everyone build their own way of learning how to learn.
Laura Matuszczak
For a long time Nyki was run by just one person. But since 2023 Laura Matuszczak has worked alongside Laure day to day — and she is often the person families speak to when they first find us.
A graduate of a master's in social and solidarity economy from the University of Metz, Laura joined Nyki for her final-year internship. The pair get on so well that Laura hasn't left since! Day to day, Laura puts her listening ear at the service of tutors and families alike, guiding them through every organisational and practical challenge. She has also been teaching students herself every afternoon for over three years.
You'll also find her in the field at our events: she co-runs the Art'athon alongside Laure and professional artists, the weekend when thirty young people aged 8 to 18 put on a whole show. Nyki has a stand to run? You'll probably find her there too!
Laure and Laura are tutors themselves, every day.
We know your difficulties, because we live them with you.
The team, in their own words
Laure explains how Nyki works, and our tutor Marieke describes what makes our team so special.
What we're really looking for
Our first criterion isn't the diploma. It's the ability to listen.
Listening above all
At Nyki there's no ready-made solution meant to suit everyone. Our tutors are chosen for their ability to listen, analyse a situation, and try something else when the first approach doesn't work.
Varied backgrounds
Teachers, students from different fields, translators. Not all are trained teachers, and that's a strength: each has their own approach, different from school's.
A shared passion
What unites us isn't a qualification but a love of teaching and supporting others. You feel it from the first session.
Our tutors don't know who pays what
This is by design, and it matters as much as the pricing itself. Our tutors are paid the same rate whatever the family pays, and they don't know who receives a discount.
A student supported free of charge therefore receives exactly the same service as anyone else, without ever carrying the label. Solidarity, with dignity intact.
Do you love teaching?
We regularly recruit tutors across all subjects and levels. Location, rhythm and workload are agreed with you.
Interested in meeting the team?
We would be delighted to meet you too, whether online or in person.
